Why City Year loves the University of California, Davis, School of Law
The University of California, Davis, School of Law (King Hall) is one of the world’s leading law schools, known for its commitment to excellence in legal education, public service and an inclusive, supportive academic community.
Approved by the American Bar Association, it offers a Juris Doctor program of study in a full-time day program. The School of Law ranks 38th in the country overall and ranks #26 in reputation as judged by law school deans and faculty. Our faculty consistently ranks in the top 30 for scholarly impact and presently ranks #23 in Leiter’s Law School Rankings. Our small size ensures students have faculty access, student services support (including an on-site counselor), academic support (which includes a teaching assistant in every section of every first-year class and extensive bar exam preparation resources) and career services support (five full-time lawyer counselors, including one dedicated to working specifically with students interested in government and public interest sectors).
Named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the school strives to increase access to systemically under-resourced communities and consistently ranks high in national law school rankings for student and faculty diversity, public interest offerings, financial aid generosity, low student indebtedness and inclusion efforts. King Hall also commits resources to increasing the number of students from systemically under-resourced communities who apply to law school and operates outreach programming for prelaw students from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
