Universal Orlando Supports AmeriCorps Member Professional Development
Spring Break marks a time when students and teachers are off from school, taking a much-needed reprieve during the school year. Our corps of young leaders who serve all day, every day, all year, are also taking a break from in-school service, with a City Year twist.
On March 20, 2018, members of the Universal Orlando Resort Human Resources team visited City Year Orlando. Universal Orlando team members presented on professional development topics centered around interviewing skills. Speaking to them was Elise, a Senior Representative of Human Resources at Universal Orlando. She informed AmeriCorps members on what interviewing is, the two goals of interviews, preparing for the interview and what to do during and after the interview. Following the presentation, AmeriCorps members had the opportunity to test their skills in small mock interview groups with the Human Resources team members. In honor of AmeriCorps Member Appreciation Month lunch was also provided by Universal Orlando for the corps.
City Year provides a “double bottom line” by impacting students as well as AmeriCorps members. City Year Orlando not only transforms the future of young students, but also develops its 68 AmeriCorps members as engaged citizens equipped with the passion, skills and courage to continue making a difference long after their year of service. City Year Orlando strategically motivates, supports, and challenges AmeriCorps members to develop the skills to become effective leaders in the community and the workplace, building a pipeline of committed citizens. As our next generation of young leaders, AmeriCorps members help build a stronger democracy and a more competitive workforce.
At City Year, the future of our AmeriCorps members is as important as the future of the schools we serve. The professional development information given to them about interviewing was invaluable. Thank you, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Orlando Foundation, for giving our AmeriCorps members the tools they need for their future plans.
