Celebrating City Year’s 25 years of DCPS Partnerships

City Year DC has been proudly serving the Washington, DC community for almost 25 years thanks to the support of numerous partner schools. During this Partnership Appreciation Week, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the schools that have welcomed us over the years. Your collaboration and support have made it possible for us to serve our students and communities effectively. This year, our Impact Managers, who work in schools every day, wanted to personally thank their school communities.

Here are their messages of appreciation:

Shirley Chisholm Elementary School & Statesmen College Preparatory Academy for Boys Public Charter School

“We extend our deepest gratitude to our invaluable partner school communities for their unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit in empowering educational excellence. Your steadfast support and commitment have profoundly enriched the lives of countless students. Together, we’ve forged a dynamic partnership that transcends boundaries, fostering a culture of innovation and inclusivity. Thank you for your tireless passion and unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives and shape a brighter future for generations to come.”-Jessica Prosper, the Impact Manager for the City Year Team at Shirley Chisholm Elementary School and Statesmen College Preparatory Academy for Boys.

Ketcham Elementary School & Noyes Elementary School

“I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks for the incredible partnership we’ve shared over the last two years. Our collaboration has been nothing short of amazing, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you and create a remarkable educational experience for our students. Your commitment to student growth and your unwavering dedication to our shared goals have been instrumental in our success. Happy Partnership Appreciation, Ketcham ES and Noyes ES!”-Deja, and I proudly serve as the Impact Manager at Ketcham Elementary School and Noyes Elementary School.

Cardozo Education Campus & Brookland Middle School

“This year at Cardozo has taught me a lot and helped to strengthen myself as a leader. It has been great working with Dr. Fields, who has become a staple in the MS culture and climate. Each one of my corps members has built great bonds with their partner teachers and other stakeholders in the building. Thank you for having us, Cardozo! At Brookland, it has been a wonderful pleasure to kickstart the first year of this blossoming partnership. The past nine months have been amazing, as Brookland has integrated the team and me into the BMS family. The staff/faculty are very approachable and always willing to help and collaborate for the success of the students and the school as a whole.”-Sunny, the Impact Manager of the Cardozo team and the Brookland team this year.

Simon Elementary School & Turner Elementary School

“The partner teachers at Simon and Turner are great to work with and also work well with the Corps members placed in their classes. Everyone at Turner is welcoming, and you feel like family when in the building. The partner teachers at Simon inspire our Corps members to grow in their personal and professional lives far beyond their year of service. We greatly appreciate you for everything you have done for our City Year Team at both schools.”-Rita, and I am the Impact Manager for Simon Elementary School and Turner Elementary School.

Smothers Elementary School & Boone Elementary School

“Ever since I arrived at Smothers, I have felt welcomed and accepted. Smothers is like a home away from home for me and the teams that serve and have served here over the last few years. Special shout-out to our partner teachers: Ms. Charles, Ms. Maddie, Ms. Robinson, Ms. Wilkinson, Ms. Reaves, and Ms. Paat. We appreciate you all! As a newer member of the Boone community, I appreciate how the staff and teachers at Boone have made City Year a part of the fabric of their school. Boone ES holds and models high expectations for their students, and I’m happy to be a part of their culture of excellence. Special shout-out to our partner teachers: Ms. Simmons, Ms. Fredericks, Ms. Hanchard, Ms. Marston, Ms. Lewis, and Mr. Josephs. We appreciate you all!”-Austin, and I proudly serve as the Impact Manager for the AmeriCorps Members at Smothers Elementary and Boone Elementary.

Houston Elementary School

“Our partner teachers (Huff, Calderon & Dodds) at Houston support our AmeriCorps Members’ daily work with students and set them up for success through collaborative planning. Huge shout-out to everyone in the Houston school community for your commitment to student success this year — we appreciate your partnership!”-Allison Felder, and I am the interim Impact Manager for Houston Elementary School.

Johnson Middle School & Hart Middle School

“Thank you, Johnson Middle School admin and teachers, for working with the team and being so gracious and flexible during the many transitions we took this year. The staff has always been welcoming and supportive of integrating them into the classrooms. Thank you, Hart Middle School admin and teachers, for always keeping the team integrated within the Hart family! The support you bring year after year has always been great, and the team always feels supported while working alongside the staff!”-Taylor, and I proudly serve as the Impact Manager of Johnson Middle School and Hart Middle School.

Meridian Public Charter School & Ida B. Wells Middle School

“Our partnership with Meridian has been crucial in providing meaningful support to students in the DC area. We have had to be more thoughtful and flexible to offer meaningful support to students, and our school leaders and teachers have welcomed that support completely. Thank you, Principal Blair-Barzey and staff! I appreciate the partnership at Ida B. Wells because they have long been a champion of City Year and encourage us to be a very visible part of their school community. They have gone above and beyond to ensure that we maintain a presence in Ward 4 through actively engaging city politicians, parent advocacy groups, and working in tandem with City Year staff on several initiatives. They even have an alum as part of their school leadership team! All the staff clearly value City Year, and we value their continued support and partnership! Thank you, Principal Lyles and staff!”-Allison Felder, and I am the interim Impact Manager for Houston Elementary School.

Kramer Middle School and Stanton Elementary School

“First, I want to shout out Principal Shelby at Kramer. Over the past three years, Principal Shelby has been a champion for City Year and has been the motivator we’ve needed to build quality relationships with students and families. Thank you so much for your continued support, leadership, and wisdom! Next, I wanted to take time to appreciate Principal Richardson and the Stanton staff. Since I’ve arrived in late January, everyone has been open, friendly, and supportive. I appreciate Stanton for welcoming me with open arms and for always supporting City Year!”-Ryan, and I proudly serve as the Impact Manager of Kramer Middle School and Stanton Elementary School.

To all our partner schools, both new & longstanding, thank you for your continued support and collaboration. Your partnership is invaluable in helping us make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students. Here’s to many more years of working together to create brighter futures for the youth of DC!
