Events are back at City Year Detroit!

Many nonprofits, like City Year Detroit, host events to invite new and current champions to learn more about the organization and help raise critical funds to support the program. But amid the pandemic, most in-person gatherings were canceled or postponed. As the pandemic continues to wind down, we are thrilled to get back into action. Along with adding events back to our fundraising calendar, we revisited filling the role of the events manager. Keiara Middleton was up for the challenge.

“Events are incredibly important to City Year Detroit because they allow our community to learn more about City Year and the work our AmeriCorps members are doing to support students across Detroit. Additionally, they are a great way to thank our supporters who continue to invest in our organization. I’m thrilled to welcome Keiara Middleton to our team, and I look forward to her leading the strategy and execution of events.”
– Ashley Ashkenazi, managing director of development at City Year Detroit

Keiara has served with City Year Detroit for four years, most recently as a senior instructional coach. Prior to her time at City Year, Keiara was an event planner for a Lansing community development nonprofit and taught elementary education in Detroit for six years.

“There are so many factors that aid in the success of City Year’s program model. I’ve had the privilege of supporting our AmeriCorps members as manager and coach. The events and communications role allows me to continue my own professional development while still being involved in the transformational work of this organization.”
– Keiara Middleton, senior events and communications manager

We are absolutely thrilled to get back to in-person events. In fact, City Year Detroit hosted our first in-person event, Get in the Game, on October 7th. The event featured networking, a strolling reception and interactive activity stations that spotlighted how our AmeriCorps members support students daily.
