Happy AmeriCorps Member Appreciation Month!

March has many great attributes. Flowers are budding, chocolate is on sale, and it marks the first official month of spring! At City Year, it also marks a very important time of the year when we show our appreciation for our talented, inspiring, resilient, and dedicated AmeriCorps members. These diverse and unique individuals have dedicated a year of service to others, choosing to support students in systemically underserved communities across the country.

Each day, our City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members partner with teachers and serve as student success coaches, helping to create welcoming and engaging learning environments where all students can thrive. They are vital to the work we do!

Here in Detroit, their work does not go unnoticed or underappreciated. In schools across the Detroit Public Schools Community District, our corps members work tirelessly to support students. They arrive to schools before the first bell rings and stay long after students leave school. But they persist and continue to get the job done to help make a difference in the lives of students. We’re proud of them, the skills they are building, and their commitment to creating positive change in Detroit.

We are thankful to our partners for joining us in commemorating this group of hardworking idealists! Kroger has generously given each of our City Year Detroit AmeriCorps members $25 gift cards! The Taco Bell Foundation has also graciously given each of our school teams $25 gift cards to have a taco party! Moreover, we are grateful for the support of Board members Dana Locniskar and Mike Acheson, both of whom have donated meals to be delivered to AmeriCorps members in recognition of AmeriCorps Appreciation Month.
