Idealist breakfast 2019
On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, more than 200 individuals and community champions spent the morning at Embassy Suites Downtown for City Year Orlando’s Idealist Breakfast.
The event brought together individuals who are passionate about education and dedicated to supporting student success. We were proud to feature Mayor Demings, who spoke to the importance of community support and his investment in City Year Orlando. As well as Jaida Doby, a current student at Jones High School, who shared an inspiring story alongside her former City Year AmeriCorps member about what it meant to have a tutor and role model help support her and believe anything is possible. Jaida shared, “Thank you Mr. Camen for never giving up on me and seeing the potential I have, even when I didn’t see it in myself.”
City Year Orlando deploys diverse groups of young leaders who serve as near peer tutors and role models in eight Title I OCPS partner schools, helping students get back on-track to graduate ready for college and career success.
City Year Orlando would like to thank Starbucks Coffee Company and Source2, Inc. for sponsoring this event and a special thanks to Jerry L. Demings, Mayor of Orange County, Florida for his support and investment in City Year Orlando.
