Walter Wallace, Jr.

This week, Walter Wallace, Jr. — a son, a father, a loved one, and friend — had his life taken in West Philadelphia. First and foremost, City Year Philadelphia would like to honor Mr. Wallace’s life and offer our deepest condolences to his parents, children, family, and friends.

Our hearts are heavy as we endure seeing yet another Black life being taken at the hands of police and to know the personal impact this has on our community and our city. At different points throughout this week, City Year Philly has paused its work and service to gather in memory of Walter Wallace, Jr. and to simply be together.

It is during trying times such as this that we are most grateful to be a part of the City Year community — one that is rooted in empathy and social justice for all. We pledge to do all we can to support the safety and well-being of our corps and staff in the days and weeks ahead.
