$16,000 merit scholarships
A $16,000 merit scholarship will be awarded to all admitted City Year applicants per year towards the two-year Master of Social Work program, only on the Denver campus. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full time.
Scholarships are awarded to City Year AmeriCorps members and alums who complete at least one term of service and City Year staff employed for at least two years.
The scholarships described above represent the minimum awards; applicants will be considered for additional merit-based aid depending on the academic strength of their application.

- Enrollment deferral: The Graduate School of Social Work will allow deferrals for up to one year if accepted applicants decide to serve additional time with City Year.

*Beginning in 2026, AmeriCorps alumni who use their Segal Education Award in Colorado will not owe state income tax on the Award amount used in that year. There will still be federal income tax on the award.

Please self-identify your City Year affiliation on your résumé and the online application (City Year checkbox).
To access the application fee waiver and apply for the scholarship
- To get the application fee waived, please check the City Year box on the online application. It will then auto-waive the app fee.
- To apply for the scholarship, list City Year on yourr resume and write about your City Year experience in your personal essay.
A separate application is not required to receive the public service scholarship, but you will need to add your City Year service or employment history to the “affiliations” section of the Master of Social Work application.
